The Mysterious Bird in the Cage

How does the mysterious bird

come into and go away from the cage?

If I knew, I would chain the bird with my mind.

 

There are eight rooms, locked up with nine doors.

And there are windows in between.

The central room is above there, where the mirror hall exists.

 

It is all about my sheer bad luck

that the bird fools around with me like this.

Breaking the cage, where does my bird fly away?

 

“Oh, poor mind, are you still relying on the cage?

Your cage is made of raw bamboo

and it will be destroyed any day,” Fakir Lalon laments.

খাঁচার ভিতর অচিন পাখি

খাঁচার ভিতর অচিন পাখি
কেমনে আসে যায়
তারে ধরতে পারলে মন বেড়ি দিতাম পাখির পায়।।

 

আট কুঠুরি, নয় দরজা আঁটা 

মধ্যে মধ্যে ঝরকা কাটা
তার উপরে সদর কোঠা, আয়না মহল তায়।।

 

কপালের ফের নইলে কি আর
পাখিটির এমন ব্যবহার
খাঁচা ভেঙ্গে পাখি আমার  কোনখানে পালায়।।

 

মন তুই রইলি খাঁচার আশে

খাঁচা যে তোর কাঁচা বাঁশের

কোন দিন খাঁচা পড়বে খসে ফকির লালন কেঁদে কয়।।

 The Expectations have not been Fulfilled

The expectations have not been fulfilled,

the desires beneath my heart have not been satisfied.

 

God is the king of this universe.

He keeps me as His citizens.

He punishes if the dues are not paid

and never listens to anyone’s excuses.

 

I hold a hope on his mercy

that I would fulfill my desires by worshiping him.

But my fate betrayed me

and has given me these sufferings of life.

 

I have been caught by misfortune,

then I made mistakes performing the core commitments.

Lalon says, “For this reason,

do not leave me, Murshid.”

আমার মনের বাসনা।।

 

বিধাতা সংসারের রাজা

আমায় করে রাখলেন প্রজা।

কর না দিলে দেয় গো সাজা

কারো দোহাই মানে না।।

 

বাঞ্ছা করি যুগল পদে

সাধ মিটাব ঐ পদ সেধে।

বিধি বৈমুখ হলো তাতে

দিল সংসার যাতনা।।

 

পড়ে গেলাম বিধির বামে

ভুল হলো মোর মূল সাধনে।

লালন বলে এই নিদানে

মুর্শিদ ফেলে যেও না।।

 For How Long

For how long this innocent being

will be burning, my Lord? Forever,

I am burning in the fire of misery, forever...

 

If this devotee dies, there will be no difference, so I wish to die.

Blame on your merciful name will remain, my Lord.

If you give me grief, I will still worship.

Who will I praise but you all my life, forever?

 

That cloud appeared for a while but where has it vanished at once?

This thirsty being is about to die of thirst.

For which sin of mine, you imposed this misery on me?

Look back my Lord, look back once, at least.

 

I fly with the air, holding your hand.

If you do not proceed me forward then who else will?

Grant mercy for my sins and give me access to Your blissful shelter.

Lalon says "I cannot bear this misery, forever".

আর কতদিন জানি

আর কতদিন জানি এই অবলা  প্রাণী
এ জ্বলনে জ্বলবে, ওহে দয়েশ্বর, চিরদিন

দুঃখেরি অনলে প্রাণ জ্বলিছে আমার, চিরদিন।।

 

দাসী ম’লে ক্ষতি নাই, যাই হে মরে যাই
তোমার দয়াল নামের দোষ, রবে রে গোঁসাই

আমায় দাও হে দুঃখ যদি, তবু তোমার সাধি
তোমা ভিন্ন দোহার আর দেবো কার, চিরদিন।।

 

ও মেঘ হয়ে উদয়, লুকালো কোথায়,
পিপাসীর প্রাণ যায় পিপাসায়

আমার কি দোষেরই ফলে এই দশা ঘটাইলে
চাও হে নাথ ফিরে এখন, চাও হে একবার, চিরদিন।।

 

আমি উড়ি হওয়ার সাথ, ধরি তোমার হাত 
তুমি না ত্বরাইলে কে, ত্বরাবে হে নাথ?

আমার ক্ষমো অপরাধ, দাও হে ওই শীতল পদ

লালন বলে, প্রাণে সহে না আমার, চিরদিন।।

I have never seen him in my life.

 

I sense he moves within the north-east horizon but remains unseen.

The existential world is very here

but I cannot reach him with my hands.

 

Everyone says that he is the soul-bird, so I keep silent.

Water or fire, earth or air,

nothing gives a reasoning over this matter.

 

Though I cannot access the facts of my own house.

I desire to know the other.

Lalon says, “The some other

আমি জনম ভরে একদিন দেখলাম না রে।।

 

লড়ে চড়ে ঈষাণ কোণে দেখতে পাই না এ নয়নে

হাতের কাছে যার ভবের হাট বাজার

ধরতে গেলে হাতে পাইনে তারে।।

 

সবে বলে প্রাণ পাখি, শুনে চুপে চুপে থাকি

জল কি হুতাশন, মাটি কি পবন,

কেউ বলে না একটা নির্ণয় করে।।.

 

আপন ঘরের খবর পাইনা

বাঞ্ছা করি পরকে চেনা

লালন বলে, পর

বলিতে পরমেশ্বর

সে কি রুপ আমি কি রুপে রে।।
